Hi. I'm Brittany.

Quick Home Updates

Itching to hit refresh on your home? Instead of buying completely new pieces, consider what you have and how you could give it a magic touch...

01. KNOBS | We actually have the same Ikea dresser (the eight drawer version), and Emily Henderson jazzed this one up with a fresh coat of paint and precious little knobs. I love how they tie in the coral accents from elsewhere in the room. Anthropologie has awesome knobs, but World Market has similar ones at 1/8th of the price! These ones used on the dresser above are my favorite.

02. SPRAY PAINT | Cans of this stuff can be your best friend. I keep all of my leftover spray paint from projects and it usually comes in handy. Painting woven baskets like these might take a few cans, but I love how they add texture and dimension to a room. They would look great tucked under an entry table or filled with blankets next to a couch or bed. Thanks for the idea, Martha! Don't currently have a basket? This one would be perfect. You could also scope out some yard sales or Homegoods for a really good deal! I've also spray painted numerous picture frames and lamp bases in our apartment for a quick update.

03. CONTAIN | Create a visually pleasing pantry or laundry space with the addition of some large Bell jars and baskets. These are items that you can find at your local grocer or sometimes hardware store. We received matching canisters as wedding gifts (these and these) and they are awesome. I love how Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge cleared the clutter with these wire baskets to hold her linens. We so easily gather cute tea towels, napkin sets, and seasonal placemats and I love the idea of having them where I can see them, but they don't get jumbled up on a shelf.

04. PRINT YOUR PICTURES | My favorite way to refresh our home is by switching up the pictures around the house. It's so much fun to go through all of the pictures we've taken - fond college memories with friends, childhood pictures with relatives, travels stateside and abroad - and have them displayed in our apartment. I feel that it's pictures that make your house a home, and they're such great conversation starters when you have guests. It doesn't have to be expensive to get prints, either! Consider hanging several small images together, gallery style. Ikea has great frames, including matted options, and don't forget the power of spray paint. Garage sales are a great way to find uniquely textured frames, and mpix is my favorite place to order prints (metallic lustre for the win!). Jenny Komenda of Little Green Notebook wrote this awesome post about getting large prints on the cheap, if you're wanting larger scale images! You could also frame momentos, like old family recipes, tickets to a concert you loved, or a sweet note from a friend. You could even skip the frames and do something unconventional, like hang clipboards and clip the images in!

05. FLOWERS | Next time you're at the grocery store, pick up some flowers for yourself. Flowers are such a simple way to add life to your home. Bringing the outdoors in can make you so happy! Joanna Goddard lists three great ways to arrange supermarket flowers at home here. You could also grab some branches or foliage from outside and arrange them in a larger vessel or consider getting a maidenhair fern - they do great indoors and love shade.

So, what do you think? Will you be trying any of these updates in your home? I'd love to know!

Also... come back later today for something SUPER exciting!!! See you on your lunch break ;)
