Hi. I'm Brittany.

Happy Father's Day

A year ago today, we were preparing for a pretty big walk together. In just a week, on June 22, we were going to walk down the aisle together, and I'll admit that I didn't know what to expect. You've always been the quiet type, letting mom and I hustle and bustle and plan and you've nodded your head in agreement so many times that I'm surprised it hasn't fallen off of your body yet. Looking back on that summer day in Florida, as we waited for everyone to get seated in the chapel, I loved the time we got to spend together closed up in that tiny room. It was the first time I didn't have to do anything that day... just wait. I was so restless. You laughed, told me to relax, and said "Don't worry. I've done this wedding thing before."

Dad... you really are the coolest. There are an infinite number of things for me to thank you for, and most of them you already know. But I'd love to tell you just a few today. 1. Thank you for setting such a wonderful example to me of what a husband's love looks like. In this first year of marriage, Chris and I have learned so much, but you were the one who initially showed me what to look for and what to ask for from my husband. Chris is a strong, gentle anchor like you, and for that I am so thankful. 2. Thank you for being my concert partner, fellow gadget lover, design geek, inside-joke friend. I've always appreciated that we speak the same "nerd language" and could talk for hours in the car about music and art and interesting or funny things we read. Our weekly (sometimes daily) emails back and forth about funny things we've seen are often the boost I need to get through the day... and they instantly raise my cool factor, since I work with three other guys. And lastly, 3. Thank you for continuing to cheer me on in my faith. Watching you and mom lead youth when I was young, seeing you read the books you have over the years, admiring your well-worn Bible. I know that I cannot begin to understand the vast amount of times you've fervently prayed over me, but I can tell you that I am endlessly thankful for it.

Happy Father's Day, dad. Love you.

PS - No, you cannot hold this post over mom as "she loves me more"... I know you two keep track of who I call first and who I talk to longest. Mom, I know I didn't write you a post like this for Mother's Day, and I owe you one!
