Hi. I'm Brittany.

I'm a brand designer & a writer saved by grace, sharing joy in the simplest ways.

I once read an article about an elderly man who had memorized all of Shakespeare's works (incredible, right?). His said he did this because when he's in the last stages of his life, whether or not he can speak, see, or move, he has "these words to flip through in my mind, to keep me company." I always thought that was such a beautiful sentiment. How beautiful would it be to, in your old age, be able to reflect on God's Word by memory?

There's so much of the Bible that I don't know – which is a driving factor behind me going to seminary. I can say quite confidently that there's much of the Bible that I've never read before. Reading and knowing His truth soothes my soul, gives me courage, but most of all, it brings me closer to the feet of Christ. Striving towards knowing our God better is what makes the things of this world fade away. It's what sets things right and makes things new.

I was flipping through my Bible on the drive home from the holidays, and came across a section I had highlighted in Colossians. A section of it has really stuck with me...

"Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts."
Colossians 3:15-16 -

Let His peace rule over you. Let it be your authority, your law. Doing this is a healing balm over your relationships, and helps you to be grateful. Let His Word dwell in you richly. Let it be the words the come out of your mouth and the song in your heart. In this season of emptiness, this has filled me with so much hope.

So I'm working to sew His Word into my heart. I'm doing my best to read my Bible regularly, and to begin to memorize Scripture (something I've never really done before). I'd love for you to join me :) Since Colossians has been my special friend lately, I figured we could work through it together. For the next four weeks, I'll be sharing a verse to memorize and a little bit about why it speaks truth to us today. And for extra fun (and help memorizing), I'll be sharing a phone background with the verse on it! So every time we open our phones, we can work towards sewing in more of that truth. Check back for the first post later today!

Dwell – Colossians, Week 1
